3/22/2011 Photographer Neil R. Shapiro of Niskayuna, NY, has won Second Place for February in the prestigious photography contest sponsored by BetterPhoto.com, the site's founder, Jim Miotke, announced Tuesday.
More than 15600 entries were submitted to the online photography contest, which attracted contestants from around the world and featured 10 separate categories.
Shapiro's stunning image, "Into the Light", garnered top honors after being submitted in the Catch-All category.

Albany, NY: Please join us on March 20 at a reception to meet the artist and celebrate the opening of an exhibition of nature photographs by Neil R. Shapiro in the main lobby of the Massry Residence in Albany. The opening will begin at 2:00 P.M. followed by refreshments and a violin concert by the Leonata Duo.
Neil’s photographs are inspired by his love for impressionistic art. He uses long exposures to soften and show the movement of water or elements of the scene, or camera movement to abstract the colors and forms. Fall foliage, waterfalls, streams, and flowers are principal subjects that lend themselves well to his impressionistic approach to nature photography. The painterly feel of his photos is enhanced further by the selection of canvas as the preferred media for his select work.
The exhibit will be at the Massry Residence from March 16 through April 30th.

A meet the artist reception has now been scheduled for the "Nature's Palette" exhibition. The reception will be Sunday March 6, 7-9 pm.
